The Ramp is a multidisciplinary project space that is questioning the conventional means of institutional access to the arts. Our in-house infrastructure, tools, and studios are intentionally overlapped with curated public programming to place the maker at the centre of cultural production today.
01 WELCOME
At its heart, The Ramp exists as a facility in which a highly diverse roster of creative practitioners work. Built on the necessity to share space, our collective knowledge and resources are employed as collaborative tools to break down barriers that have traditionally existed between different creative disciplines.
Ceramicists working with carpenters, welders making with sculptors, architects building with web developers and so on. These ‘interference patterns’ inform the nature of our space and are the backbone of our public programming.

We aim to embody an ‘institution without walls’ where there is a spirited exchange between inside and out — between our ‘work-in-progress centre for the arts’ and the public.
The Ramp actively invites the public in to experience a raw and intimate engagement with the arts through our curated public programme. Workshops, lectures, exhibitions, parties, and The Ramp Residency programme all form part of this cultural offering. We see these public programming initiatives as community building tools and a means to explore new modes of institutional values.
Established in 2017, 15 Carlisle Street, Cape Town, is the physical home and testing ground of The Ramp. Join us, pop by or let’s collaborate!
